10 mil clear visqueen plastic is excellent for use as a dust barrier to contain hazardous dust, asbestos, lead paint and in mold remediation work. The strength, durability, and tear-resistance of 10 mil poly is preferred in abatement work.
It can also be used for long-term weather proofing for open construction sites or outdoor equipment. For a big project that requires long-term protection, or for a short project that will be subject to harsh weather, the extra thickness and weather-resistance of 10 mil will prove its worth.
Another standard use of 10 mil clear plastic sheeting is as a vapor barrier, either in a crawl space or in a concrete slab. This is another application where high strength and thickness are required, as vapor barriers are meant to last for decades and stand the test of time. 10 mil visqueen plastic will keep the moisture at bay.
10 mil visqueen is also sometimes used in landscaping when long-term, maintenance-free installations are desired. It is especially popular in hotter climates where low-water solutions are preferred. Cover it with mulch and it will keep the weeds away, leaving the installation clean, modern, and unchanging for years to come. Simply change out the mulch every year and cut away the 10 mil poly sheeting where you wish to make new plantings.
Use 10 mil poly inside or outside to cover, protect, separate, moisture-proof, or anything else that requires a durable, thick, long-lasting plastic seal.
IMPORTANT - "CLEAR" Poly Sheeting
Clear poly is the industry standard for sheeting that is not string reinforced or another color, such as black. The thicker the sheeting, the less "clear" it will appear. For truly clear sheeting, we suggest a "virgin clear" poly. Any other sheeting will be more translucent in appearance, where as the thicker sheeting will be more opaque. The degree of visibility can also vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer.
